Help Raise Breast Cancer Awareness this October
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among American women except for skin cancers. American Cancer Society statistics show that approximately one out of every eight women in the United States will develop breast cancer at some point during her lifetime. It is fatal far too often.
Olivia says positive thinking and a healthy lifestyle helped her to beat cancer.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a health campaign organized by various breast cancer charities across the world, is held every October. It’s an excellent time for us all to help raise awareness and understanding of this disease.
Whether you are holding an official fundraising dinner for charity or just hosting a get-together in your own home to honor a friend or family member who is living with breast cancer, your guests will certainly understand the event’s significance when you decorate the table in pink. The pink ribbon has become an instantly-recognizable symbol of breast cancer awareness around the globe, and the color pink itself also symbolizes the movement.
Dress up a basic white tablecloth with pink placemats and matching cloth napkins folded into pink breast cancer awareness ribbons. As you can see in the photos, I opted to use placemats and napkins that are pink with white polka dots. (You should be able to easily find a variety of options at the store or use supplies that you already have at home.) If you have them, pink dishes or other colored dishes with pink trim can add to the place setting. White dishes on pink chargers can work, too.
Use a pink ribbon pin or a similar trinket to weight down the napkins. As long as it holds your folded napkins into place, the napkin weights can be made from nearly any small items you choose. If you decide to use pins, your guests can take them home and wear them throughout the month.
Pink candles or white candles placed in tea light candle holders with pink decorations add ambiance to the table and small pink flowers can be scattered throughout. Add place cards so guests know where to sit. Angel figurines can be used to hold the cards if the event is being held in a friend or family member’s memory.
